We collected data on pines before, during,
and after fires at Archbold Biological Station occurring between
1989 and 1993. Only sites with 150 or more individuals were
sampled. Prior fire histories of the stands varied widely.
Prefire data were generally taken within 2 months of the burn.
Fire intensity data were taken during the fire (peak
temperatures with temperature-sensitive paints) or one month
postfire. We visited trees 4 months postfire to record beetle
data. Subsequent visits were made 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 years
postfire for some burns, but survival to 1 year was used in
analyses. Please see Menges and Deyrup (2001) for more details.
This dataset includes 57 variables: stand
level means and data (n=24 fires). Other analyses mentioned in
the paper were done within burns at the individual tree level
(these data not presented here).
