An educational workshop for volunteers who wish to assist
naturalists in leading nature walks. This worshop is at
Highlands Hammock State Park, Saturday, 19 February 2000, 8:30

Working Group: 0930 - 1530. The Agenda
includes "Communications skills for conservation
professionals" at 1015 by Susan Jacobson; the post-lunch
program includes a bugs and fire hike with Mark Deyrup, and
talks on Vertebrates of the LWR by Jim Layne, Ecosystem mapping
project by Roberta Pickert, and Legislative update by Ken
Morrison. Lunch must be ordered, in advance, by
Monday, 24 April 2000; Please RSVP for meal reservations to

and Sciences, University of Florida.

Discovering Florida Scrub
Workshop: A 2-day workshop for elementary school
teachers and informal educators. Application deadline; 8
September 1999.
Discovering Florida Scrub Workshop provides educators
with collaborative, hands-on experiences in the Florida scrub
using a newly developed curriculum for teachers of grades 3-5.
Participants will do indoor and outdoor investigative activities
from the curriculum, hold round table discussions, and have
opportunities to interact with Archbold Biological Station
scientists during informal talks and demonstrations. The
workshop (schedule) will begin
Thursday morning at 0800 and continue to 1600 on Friday.
Accommodations and meals are provided by the Station and are
available beginning Wednesday evening through to Friday lunch (Archbold
visitor information and map). Reservations must be made in
advance. The workshop will host 30 Florida educators. The
curriculum and workshop are funded by a grant from the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Advisory Council
on Environmental Education and by the Archbold Biological
Station.
