- Archbold Biological Station is an ecological research institution with
limited facilities for visitors. All visitors should register at the
Main Office (South end of Main Building) and complete an insurance waiver.
- MAERC visits
and
Indian Prairie Safari tours by
appointment only.
- Accommodations are available for
researchers and college classes and sometimes for nature-study groups.
- An information kiosk and picnic
tables are at the North end of the Plaza.
- View an 18-minute video, "Islands in Time," on biodiversity and
conservation of the Lake Wales Ridge,
in the Lounge (South end of Main Building, next to Main Office).
- Sales (postcards, T-shirts,
books, etc.), M-F, 8-5, in the Main Office.
- The self-guiding Nature Trail,
"Scrub Discovery" (0.5 mi long), emphasizes plant identification and ecological
processes. The Trail begins at the South end of the Main Grounds. Copies of a
"Visitor Guidebook," which includes a nature trail
guide, are available at the
kiosk or in the Main Office. The Station does not maintain a collection of live animals.
- Group tours
(minimum 10 people) are available by
appointment.
- The Station has an outstanding scientific library emphasizing ecology, evolutionary
biology, and Florida natural history. It is available, on appointment, to researchers and
serious students.
