Photo Album: High Water at Archbold, August/September 2004.

At Archbold, rainfall in August 2004 (17.88 inches) and September (14.42 inches) was 2.1 times greater than the 71-year average for these months (1932-2003; Aug. 7.4 in., Sept. 7.8 in. = 15.2 total). Three hurricanes (Charlie-1.34 in., Frances-4.12 in., Jeanne-4.76 in.) contributed 10.27 in. (57%) to the total for Aug-Sept.
Seasonal ponds filled and overflowed, many firelanes became flowing streams, Lake Annie covered the dock with 18 inches of water, and Old State Road 8 was flooded at the 90-degree bend at Hicoria (2 mi. S. of Archbold's Main Gate).

Fig. 5. Lake Annie at extreme high water, with about 18 inches of water over the dock, after Hurricane Jeanne, 25-26 September 2004. The nearly-submerged rain gauge is at the end of the dock. Digital photos L-R by Hilary Swain (27 Sept.) and Carl Weekley (29 Sept.). The water has begun to recede by 29 Sept.
