February Workshlp: Florida field sites

"Faculty workshops in field
ecology at Archbold:
an opportunity to enrich the
teaching of ecology for your
undergraduate students"

Project First at Archbold Biological Station

Where do we already teach in the field in Florida? TIME 30 minutes

Materials:
  • 5 wall sized. paper maps of Florida. Post it notes for everyone to add their course information to the maps.
Activity:
  • Each institutional team annotated (writes on) a FL map indicating the location of all field sites they have individually used for teaching with students over last five years (each participant contributed).
  • Add Post-It notes including site, course name and level and numbers of students onto map
  • All groups conduct a Gallery walk around maps.
  • Return to the whole group setting.
  • Each group took 5 minutes to reflect (2-3 sentences) on which sites are used and why.
  • In future these maps could be used to determine whether the location of field sites used by faculty has changed as a result of being at the workshop.
