Sam Vander Kloet, honorary research professor in Acadia's Department of Biology, passed away while on an evening walk in Wolfville, Friday, January 21, 2011. A long-standing member of the Biology Department, Sam arrived at Acadia, Nova Scotia, in 1972 as an Assistant Professor at the invitation of E.C. Smith to take on the Directorship of the E.C. Torsten Rothman, 13th September 1937 - 24th January 2011
"Tor" Rothman served as a volunteer in the Education Department at Archbold Biological Station for over 10 years. Tor became an environmental engineer and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with the US Air Force. He continue to consult after retirement, and stayed active in organizations such as the Military Officers Association of America, and Natural Resource Analysis Center (NRAC). Tor's wife of 48 years, Carolyn, stated how much Tor loved coming to the Station and working with visiting classes from Highlands and surrounding counties. Tor will be greatly missed.
Frances Archbold Hufty, 16th October 1912 - 19th November 2010
Frances Archbold Hufty, naturalist, civic leader, and conservationist, died Friday November 19th, 2010, in Palm Beach, Florida, surrounded by family and friends. Frances, 98, served as the Chairman of the Board of Archbold Expeditions, parent organization of Archbold Biological Station and the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center, in Lake Placid, Florida, from 1976 until her death. read more....
Ann R. Malatesta, died 13th July 2009
At forty Anne Malatesta went back to college. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. While winding up her degree, she served her internship with The Nature Conservancy monitoring the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow at three sites in central Florida. It was there that Anne developed her deep love for “natural Florida” and for fire. read more....

Glen Everett Woolfenden, renowned ornithologist and evolutionary biologist, died on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007, in Sebring, Florida, of complications following abdominal surgery. Woolfenden, 77, was internationally known as the world’s expert on Florida Scrub-Jays. read more....
