Stargazing at Archbold –

As with many experienced amateur astronomers, my interest in astronomy extends not just to my own enjoyment of the universe above, but also to the enjoyment we get from helping others discover and better appreciate the vast reaches of space. As time permits, I am happy to bring one of my telescopes (a 10 inch diameter Dobsonian) out to the Archbold Main Grounds along with my astro-presentation laser pointer to help groups enjoy the nighttime beauty of Archbold. Before moving to this area (mostly because of the particularly dark, clear country skies) I worked as an astronomy educator and planetarium presenter for the South Florida Science Museum and its Buzz Aldrin Planetarium (in West Palm Beach, FL). It is a real treat for me to now be able to show groups things like the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy live and in person, visible with the un-aided eye rather than just a digitized representation as was required from the light polluted skies of the big city!
