Palm Beach, FL - The Board of Trustees of Archbold Expeditions is sad to announce the passing of the Board Chairperson, Frances Archbold Hufty, 98, at her home in Palm Beach, Florida. Mrs. Hufty was surrounded by her family late Friday evening (November 19th) when she passed.
Frances Hufty was an inspirational woman, who devoted much of her time to serving others. She was on several boards advocating for environmental causes and was heavily involved with many organizations dedicated to helping children and the disabled.
Mrs. Hufty enjoyed visiting Archbold Biological Station and the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center on a regular basis. Ever smiling, she will be missed.
The Board of Trustees of Archbold Expeditions carries forward the mission of Richard Archbold and the organization he established, guiding the programmatic activities of Archbold Biological Station, the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center, and the Archbold Reserve. The Station is funded principally by proceeds from an endowment created by Richard Archbold, which is managed by the Board of Trustees. Following Mr. Archbold's death in 1976, his sister Mrs. Frances Hufty assumed the Chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of Archbold Expeditions and she continues to serve in this role to this day. The Board is currently comprised of 13 Trustees, including several members of Richard Archbold’s family, scientists, and other professionals who guide the organization’s success. They meet three times a year at Archbold Biological Station and via tele-conference, and hold regular quarterly committee meetings.
