A gigabit fiber optic FO backbone (NSF FSML funding) extends to all departments of Archbold and was extended to campus-wide housing. It integrates and promotes local and Internet access and wireless technologies into Archbold activities. A Computer Center includes a System Administrator's office, repair room, server room, storage room, and small computer room/office with Internet and local access for students and visitors. Computing services are predominantly Windows based; all the servers are running either Windows 2000 or 2003 Server and the workstations are either Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 7. The Archbold LAN connects over 80 computers and peripherals and serves about 50 resident users. At the core the gigabit FO backbone and switches service the labs and administrative offices. Seven primary servers support: a) connectivity to the Internet, Web services, remote access services; b) e-mail and Intranet services; c) primary data storage and backup services; d) accounting; e) web server with Cold Fusion, Microsoft SQL Server 2005; f) a MS SQL server for database and IM; and g) GIS lab server. Three snap servers provide data storage. Internet connectivity is via two multiplexed T1 lines. The Station’s 12-acre campus is served by 3 wireless Access Points (all connected to the FO backbone).
