How You Can Help Archbold

Archbold Expeditions is deeply appreciative of the public support we receive for many of our research, education and conservation programs at the Archbold Biological Station, the Archbold Reserve and the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center.  Archbold Expeditions is a publically supported organization exempt from income taxes under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

Consider giving online or please download our Donation Form.

Your gift will contribute towards research on endangered plants and animals, protection of the globally threatened scrub habitat, wetland restoration, and understanding the relationships between agriculture and the natural environment in the Northern Everglades, as well as outstanding public outreach and K-12 environmental education programs. Your gift can support Archbold Biological Station, the Frances Archbold Hufty Learning Center, Adrian Archbold Lodge, the Archbold Reserve and/or the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center.

Archbold Biological Station activities are sustained partially by an annual transfer from the endowment established by Richard Archbold for long-term support of the Station. Public support for the Station’s activities comes via grants from foundations, government organizations, and gifts from individuals and corporations. The National Science Foundation has supported much of our research, together with grants from US Department of Agriculture, US Department of Defense, the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  State grants include awards from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Department of Agriculture. Individual donations have helped us protect nearly 4,000 acres of lands around the Station. We gratefully acknowledge all the public and private support, and welcome contributions.

The Station has been successful in obtaining recent generous awards from the Adrian and Jessie Archbold Charitable Trust and the Kresge Foundation towards our new Frances Archbold Hufty Learning Center and Adrian Archbold Lodge. Due to be completed in 2011, this new Center will greatly enhance education and public outreach programs and will offer many opportunities for supporting future growth.

The MacArthur Agro-ecology Research Center is dedicated to ecological research, education, and environmental stewardship on a large-scale working cattle ranch owned and leased to Archbold Expeditions by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.  The working ranch is the “living laboratory” for our research, which is supported by ranch operations and by grants from government agencies including US Department of Agriculture, US Fish and Wildlife Service, World Wildlife Fund, and South Florida Water Management District. We focus on the challenges facing the vast open landscapes critical to the protection and restoration of the Northern Everglades Ecosystem.  We welcome public support to help us play vital role in the global effort to sustain working farms and ranches while maintaining their environmental values.

The Archbold Reserve, established in 2002, is focused on large-scale research in restoration ecology, with an emphasis on wetland and scrub ecosystems. Research activities are sustained partially by an annual transfer from funds set aside from the sale of conservation easements under the USDA Wetland Reserve Program. USDA funding will also support restoration of ~1,000 acres of degraded wetlands on the Reserve.  We welcome public support towards additional funding for restoration ecology activities.
