Seed Dispersal Through Agricultural Drainage Ditches

May 20, 2021 15:30 EDT

presented by Scott Dai, Agro-ecology intern.

Drainage ditches at Buck Island Ranch have been found to facilitate the dispersal of nonnative snail and plant species, but can they also act as man-made dispersal paths for other wetland plant species? Through using seed traps, Dai studied whether 1) seeds can be transported through drainage ditches, 2) whether native/nonnative species can be transported through ditches, and 3) whether seed communities differ from aboveground plant communities. Tune in to see what he found!
