Recent droughts, burn bans, and wildfires in the Lake Placid and Sebring areas have highlighted the role of fire in our local landscapes. Fire is a natural part of many Florida ecosystems, and understanding how it works—and how it’s managed—can help reduce the risk of larger, more destructive wildfires.

Join Archbold for an open conversation about fire ecology and land management on Thursday, February 19, at 6 p.m. at Wet Dogs Brewing in the Lake Placid Journal Plaza. Our scientists will share how fire supports healthy ecosystems and how land managers use it to reduce wildfire risk.

This is an informal discussion, and all are welcome to ask questions and join the conversation—no prior knowledge needed!
